Why Did The Sonic On New Boston Road Close?

This weekend after I got my usual two every other week haircut I made my way to the Sonic on New Boston Road and this is what I saw.

The sign states that they have closed this location permanently and to visit their other locations on Summerhill Road or in Wake Village.

After a few calls, I found out that the location officially closed on February 28. The lease on the property was due to end on the end of March. The biggest contributor to the closure was the drastic reduction in the workforce at Harte Hanks were also responsible for the decision to close the location.

The Sonic on New Boston Road has been open since 1991. As a kid, I remember the original Sonic from the 80's on New Boston Road that is still visible. It is now a landscape business.
