As I was sitting in my living room last night, I noticed something. My 4-year-old daughter, Addy, is not only on my wife's phone but she can use it and many of the features without any help. My next thought was "How old do your kids need to be to get their own cell phone?"

Not for just playing games and as Addy says "watching her Shopkin' videos," but a phone to be able to call home and for us, the parents, to be able to call our kids and check in on them.

According to a recent Harris poll, most parents say the primary use of the phone would be for them to keep in touch with their kids for emergency purposes. My kids are pretty proficient on my phone and can do most things on it, like YouTube and basic games, but the real question I have is, "what is the right age for them to have a phone that they can use to call you and also be responsible for it and not download bad or unnecessary apps?"
