Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s annual 'Rolling Out the Red Carpet' event will be held on campus at 4:30 p.m. today, April 24 in the University Center 3rd Floor Atrium. This university tradition hosted by the John F. Moss Library and sponsored by Graduate Studies and Research, honors faculty book authors who have published in the last year. The authors are recognized at a reception, as well as opportunities for pictures on the red carpet and autographs from the authors.

Dr. Bill McHenry, Dean of Graduate Studies and research at A&M-Texarkana noted, “We are so happy for our book authors. It takes thousands of hours, many, many revisions and countless edits to publish a book. Certainly these two academicians deserve very high praise for their significant contributions to their chosen fields.”

This event will honor two faculty authors this year: Dr. LuzMary Rincon and Dr. Elaine Wilmore. Dr. LuzMary Rincon published "Asi se habla el español de Bucaramanga," which offers a comprehensive view of the Spanish of the city of Bucaramanga, a major urban center in northeastern Colombia. The study uses data collected by interviews to 100 Bucaramanga natives conducted in the year 2011 and 70 interviews collected in 2002. It examines aspects of this dialect area that had not been investigated in other prior studies conducted by Rincon. The results of the investigation exposes the role of sociolinguistic influence on the change in the speech of this community and corroborates her proposed theory that to bumangueses, language is a marker of social class.

Dr. Wilmore’s book, "Passing the Principal Tex ES Exam," as well as several other books she has written on this subject, has helped countless educators succeed on Tex ES exams and are widely recognized as the gold standard in Tex ES preparation. In this comprehensive new guide, she turns her expertise to the exacting standards tested by the Principal exam.

Beginning with a thorough overview, Wilmore delves into case studies that all students will find useful and applicable to their own preparation, and includes a clear breakdown of the domains and competencies tested on the exam.

Immediately following the Red Carpet event, the Drama department and Campus Activities Board is putting on a production of an environmental dinner theatre musical called "Once Upon a Wood." It is a child-oriented play whose set and costumes are made entirely of recyclables!
