Get signed up now and launch your career at the "Starz Youth Talent Show." Contestants perform on the Outdoor Stage during the Four States Fair on Monday, Sept. 11. If you are between the ages of 8 and 20 and have a talent of singing or playing an instrument, here is your opportunity to shine.

The purpose of the "Starz Youth Talent Show" is to discover and develop talent among the youth in Texarkana and surrounding areas. Any genre is welcome.

The first round of competitions are Monday, Sept. 11, from 6PM to 8PM. The top three from each category will compete in the finals at the Fair on Thursday, Sept. 14. There are four age categories: 8-11, 12-14, 15-17, and 18-20.

The deadline to submit entry forms is Thursday, Sept. 7 at 5PM. The competition is open to all amateur performers between the ages of 8 and 20, with no previous professional experience or earned wages for performing.

First place winners at the finals in each age category will win a three song demo CD and cover design from Smart Studios, a multiple award winning recording and production facility in Nash, Texas.

Special prizes will also be awarded to second and third place winners in each age category.

Remember, the entry deadline is Thursday, Sept. 7, at 5PM. Each registered contestant will receive four gate admissions to the Fair for the day of competition. Entry Forms can be downloaded online or picked up at Townsquare Media, 2324 Arkansas Blvd, Texarkana, Ark.

Each contestant can compete only once and will have a time limit of three minutes for their performance as well as two minutes for set-up time and sound check. Contestants are required to bring their own cassette, CD, instrument or props. Time will not be charged to your performance if the technicians request extra time. Townsquare Media and the Four States Fairgrounds will provide a complete sound system with technicians.

Contestants will be judged on:

  1. Stage Presence
  2. Artistic Performance
  3. Audience Response
  4. Musical/talent Content

***Lyrics and presentation must be acceptable in a family environment.***

Get signed up and start practicing. Ask your friends and family to use the four aspects of the judging to give you pointers. Be prepared for mishaps. If your music stops for some reason, practice to be able to carry on no matter what happens. Running through your routine over and over can make the difference of you standing on the stage with the other finalists or, watching from the stands. Good luck!
