All of these puppies have been give up by their owners or they were strays that came into the shelter by way of animal control officers or citizens that found them wandering the streets of Texarkana. The animal shelter had 30 to 40 animals dropped on them yesterday. When high numbers of animals come into the shelter like that, they are busting at the seams.

One man was dropping his four puppies off that were approximately four months old.  One of them had some skin issues around its eyes, the dogs were very nippy when giving treats, they weren't good on a leash. They were your basic black dogs that didn't have much hope of landing on the adoption floor. The owner was under the impression that the shelter was a no kill facility. I explained that it is actually a high kill shelter and he apologized for the mistake and took his dogs back with a list of rescues to contact for assistance. Read more about why are shelter is a high kill facility and what you can do to help in my article, 'Low Kill Shelter vs. High Kill vs. No Kill – What’s the Difference?'

These puppies were dumped at the shelter by their owner. There are a total of 12 and this was just one of two large litters that were surrendered to the shelter on Monday.

The puppy room on the adoption floor is still loaded with puppies looking to be adopted.

Note: Some of the puppies in the video above are no longer at the shelter.

You can sponsor any of these animals, too. Just pay for the spay or neuter and vaccinations then the shelter will take care of the rest.
