Free movies, dog adoption, BBQ and a fundraising auction are all happening this weekend in the Texarkana area. Check out all of the events happening this weekend and in the upcoming weeks.

 


Announcements:

Dog Bathers , dog walkers and volunteers are needed at the local animal shelter. The Texarkana, Arkansas Animal Care and Adoption Center located at 203 Harrison and is open Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 5PM. Anyone can help, ages 16 and up. Call for more information 870-773-6388. You can make a difference by giving a dog a bath or helping a potential adopter walk a dog. Please remember to SPAY AND NEUTER your pets. Our local shelter is always over-crowded with homeless dogs and cats. Don't ask for gifts on your birthday this year, have an animal spayed or neutered instead.

If you have room in your heart and your home for one more person, the Educational Merit Foundation High School Exchange Program is seeking volunteer families to host high school students from France, Germany or Norway for five or ten months starting this August. EMF students are carefully screened and arrive with everything they need, including medical insurance and spending money for their stay. Saturday, March 17:

Benefit Yard Sale on Saturday from 7AM until they sell out. The sale will be at Serenity Hospice 1305 Arkansas Blvd. Proceeds benefit Relay for Life and Jennifer Stevens. Hamburgers with chips and a soda will be available for just $5. For more information call 870-773-2621.

Texarkana Animal League is hosting a pet adoption event this Saturday from 11AM to 4PM at Petsmart in Texarkana, Texas. Several local rescues will be there as well with many different dog breeds. All dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. There are also cats and kittens available for adoption in TAL’s cat adoption center inside Petsmart. Tuesday, March 27:

Angel Fund Foundation Fundraiser at Chicken Express on Arkansas Blvd from 6P to 8P. Designate "Angel Fund" at purchase and 20% of sales proceeds will be donated. Angel Fund Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. 100% of all your donations go directly to pay the medial expense of cancer patients who qualify. To date, 37 patients have been helped with their medial expenses, totaling more than $74,160.68.

Saturday, March 31:

Domestic Violence Prevention will host their 14th Annual Antique/Classic Car & Motorcycle on March 31 from 10AM to 3PM at the Texas High School parking lot. Activities the day of the show includes children activities, silent and live auctions, live local entertainment, as well as raffles throughout the day. Trophies will be given out to the winners of each division at 3PM. There is still time to sign up to be a vendor or to register your car or motorcycle!!! To Reach Every Youth hamburger and hot dog fundraiser March 31, 2012 from 5PM-8PM at Northwood Presbyterian Church. To Reach Every Youth is a non-profit charity established in honor of Trey Von Sutton to help young people that have been diagnosed with Sarcoma in the four states area. Trey was diagnosed with Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma and during his battle he received some “special gifts” from relatives and friends, with those gifts he was able to cope with his treatments. Many donations helped with his treatment but these special gifts were something he would have never asked for or realized how much it would help him. For more information visit toreacheveryyouth.com

Wine and Jazz Gala will be March 31 from 6:30 to 9:30 at the Silvermoon on Broad Street in Texarkana, Texas. This is a benefit for Harvest Texarkana. There will be a silent auction and entertainment will be provided by the band Ms Mac & the Groovetones. The event will feature an expertly paired tasting menu from Flour Child Fine Foods and Vincent's Fine Wines. Reservations will be $75 per person in advance, $85 at the door and can be purchased from Harvest Texarkana by calling 870-774-1398. Dress is dressy business or cocktail.

The 3rd Annual Mike White Bull Riding at the DeKalb Indoor Arena, DeKalb, TX (more info to come) Silent Auction on April 7 from 9AM to 2PM at the DeKalb Industrial Park--the proceeds will be split between the six families. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for children 10 and under and a giveaway of TWO 4-wheelers.
