King Cake Friday — Our Morning Show Theme For Wes’s Birthday
Do you know a good place to get a yummy King Cake in Texarkana or close by? We are going to celebrate Wes’s birthday during the Power 95.9 Morning Show on Flashback Friday and we need your help to find the best cake in town.
The traditional King Cake is made from twisted strands of cinnamon dough, topped with icing and sprinkled with purple, green, and gold colored sugar.
One of my favorite cakes came from Tubbs Hardware in Shreveport. I recently found one at Brookshire’s Grocery Story in Haughton, Louisiana that was amazing. I have tried cakes from Wal-mart and Albertson’s too. The best ones I think are the cakes with Bavarian cream or chocolate inside. Other yummy fillings are cream cheese, strawberry, apple and lemon.
Traditionally, the King Cake is an oval cake made in honor of the three kings or wise men. The shape of a King Cake symbolizes the unity of faiths. A small baby is inserted in the cake and for most it symbolizes Baby Jesus. Whoever finds the Baby Jesus is supposed to have good luck and is also responsible for bringing the cake to next year’s celebration.
