Do you know a good place to get a yummy King Cake in Texarkana or close by?

The traditional King Cake is oval and made from twisted strands of cinnamon dough, topped with icing and sprinkled with purple, green, and gold colored sugar. The shape of a King Cake symbolizes the unity of faiths. A small baby is inserted in the cake and for most it symbolizes Baby Jesus. Whoever finds the Baby Jesus is supposed to have good luck and is also responsible for bringing the cake to next year’s celebration.

One of my favorite cakes comes from Tubbs Hardware in Shreveport. It isn't exactly traditional but it is very good. I've tried King Cakes from Brookshire’s Grocery Story in Haughton, Louisiana, as well as Wal-mart and Albertson's on Arkansas Blvd in Texarkana, Ark. They are each made a little different from the other. My favorite are the creamy ones with Bavarian cream, chocolate or strawberry inside. I haven't tried a blueberry filled King Cake yet. I'm sure it is fantastic too.

Without making a special order and being able to just walk in off the street and pick up a King Cake, here is my ranking of where to find the best tasting King Cakes in Texarkana. If I missed any, I will be happy to try them out and update my list, just send me an email of where to find the tasty treats.

    Albertson's of Texarkana

Their King Cake was fresh, light and covered with sugar in the three colors of purple, gold and green. They offer many different fillings as well. My favorite there was the strawberry/cream cheese filling.

    Wal-Mart

Get there early if you want to get a selection of filling flavors. They have the cinnamon swirl type cake baked with a variety of fillings and topped with icing and the three colors of sugar sprinkled on top.
