Julio Cesar Castillo Sings ‘La Bamba’ on to Team Blake on ‘The Voice’

And so dear fans of ‘The Voice,’ day two of the blind auditions comes to an end. But never fear, because day three airs tomorrow night!

Julio Cesar Castillo was the final audition of the night, and he added something fresh to the show. For one, he was a mariachi singer! “I started singing at the age of three, when I was around six, I fell in love with mariachi,” he said. “For the last couple of years, I’ve been playing in a mariachi band three nights a week to support my family. In my family, me, my mom and my younger sister are the only one’s working right now. My dad was diagnosed with epilepsy. But it’s my time to do something more.”

Bringing something new, Castillo was the first contestant to ever sing a song entirely in Spanish. Tackling arguably everyone’s favorite Spanish song ‘La Bamba,’ Blake Shelton immediately turned around, and Cee Lo followed at the very end, which seems to be his M.O. as of late.

“You saw how quickly I turned around. I just think you have a very strong and technically good voice, it’s very powerful,” said Shelton. He then went on to mention how Castillo’s letterman-style jacket reminded him of being in a gymnasium, and had Castillo picture a banner hanging on the side saying “Blake Shelton, Season Two winner” to coerce him to choose him as a coach.

Shelton’s brown-nosing worked well, because Castillo ended up choosing him as his coach!

See you tomorrow for round three of the blind auditions!
