Voice Your Opinion About These Dogs–Animal Cruelty or Not?
Dog owners near DeKalb have been summoned to court on suspicion of animal cruelty. I attended a press conference about this case and took the photographs and videos below, depicting the environment of the animals.
Do you believe these dogs should have been taken away from the owner?
These photos and videos were taken March 25, 2015 when Bowie County Sheriff James Prince obtained a court order to remove the dogs and hogs from the owner's property just outside of DeKalb. The sheriff received a call about dogs, reporting that they were in poor physical shape and living in unhealthy conditions.
While some of the dogs didn't seem to be any worse for the wear, their living conditions were. Some dogs had no shelter. And for the dogs that did have it, that water was green and nasty.
One or more had no way to reach even the water. Some dogs had to be carried to the animal control truck because they appeared to be too weak to move.
One dog in particular looked like he might not make it much longer. He didn't move the entire time we were there.
The momma dog had no access to water and it appears the barrel had been dry for a long while.
The relatives told us the dogs are fed every other day to keep them hungry so they will hunt.
The owner's relatives say these are "hog dogs" and, in fact, there were also two wild hogs on the property that were also in very poor shape.
Here is the video of the animals' living conditions:
The owners of these dogs have been summoned to court on Thursday, April 2, at 3 p.m. at the Bowie County Courthouse in New Boston. Tell us what you think on our Facebook page.
