The Animal Care & Adoption Center of Texarkana has received a $20,000 donation.

This surprise donation came from the Estate of Eleanor Seymour of Texarkana. Seymour, a retired Arkansas High School Teacher, who died earlier this year.

The city said it is very grateful to Seymour and the executors of her estate, Margaret Gleason, and Rose Sanderson, for the donation.

They were told that Seymour had no children, but loved animals, particularly dogs. Charles Lokey, the Director of the Animal Care and Adoption Center, remembers speaking once with her when she called to discuss her dogs. He described her as a very sweet lady and wishes he could have gotten to know her better. Lokey feels there is a special place in Heaven for people like Seymour.

Lokey indicated that the donated funds will be used to continue recent improvements and upgrades to the Center. Lokey said he's also thankful for Mayor Bell and City Manager Haskins' leadership and for keeping the needs of the shelter front and center.

Officials say even though shelter employees and many community volunteers have been working very hard on the facility and have come a long way, there is still more to do.

This donation from the late Eleanor Seymour will help to continue that work.
