With sleet, snow and freezing rain falling for a majority of Monday, Feb. 23, the roads were a treacherous journey to work, school and running errands. I ventured out today and shot video to show what city travel looked like around lunch time. Then I shot more video of my trip home. The videos show the areas of concern for travel the next few days until temps get high enough to melt what is left on the roads and they say more rain, sleet and snow could be headed our way through Wednesday.

Be careful driving on roads this week as the forecasters are having a hard time predicting what we will be getting the rest of the week!

Suggestions:

Do not use your breaks on bridges and overpasses. Slow down beforehand if you feel you are traveling too high of a speed to safely make it across the bridge. Coast across as much as possible--no sudden moves.

Do not tailgate! That is a sure way to get caught up in an accident.

Don't forget to turn off your windshield wipers when you turn your car off otherwise, the next time you get into your car and turn it on, the windshield wipers will start wiping and if they are frozen to the windshield, you will cause damage to the blades.

Don't walk with your hands in your pockets. Sure, it is cold and you forgot your gloves at home but you may need to catch yourself or help balance with your arms so keep them out of your pockets.

Keep a full tank of gas. You may get stuck somewhere and need to run the heater. It is better on your car if you don't run the tank down so low and then try to crank it in super cold temps.
