MKC is a summer enrichment program for children entering into 1st through 6th grades. It started in 2015 and has grown each year since. This past summer the program reached what is anticipated as being a maximum enrollment moving forward. There were 404 students in the morning camp and 330 in the afternoon, up from 321/205 in 2016. There were a total of 31 classes and teachers.

MTC is designed to give junior high students fun and educational experiences outside of a regular classroom setting while gaining insight into different subject areas that may help them decide what college majors to pursue. MTC started in the summer of 2017 and grew from 55 students the first year to 115 this past summer. There were a total of 11 MTC teachers in 2018, but organizers hope the camp continues to grow and the demand for more teachers to increase.

Anne Sands will be taking over as coordinator of the summer programs from Jana Walker, who led MKC since it began four years ago. “It has been a pleasure to see the kids’ excitement and share the fun with so many children and teens over the years,” Walker said. “I am confident the program will continue to thrive and grow under the leadership of Anne Sands.”

Sands has served on the MKC committee since the summer camp began in 2015.
