“Our Heritage, Our Resources: Clay, Glass, Lumber, and the Development of the ArkLaTex” will be on display at the Museum of Regional History at 219 Stateline. Explore the connection between our region’s three most historically significant natural resources – clay, glass-grade sand, and lumber – and the economic development of our region. This exhibit features images and artifacts produced from the major industries that grew up around these resources: W.S. Dickey Clay Company/Post Pipe Company, Texarkana Glassworks, and the major sawmills that employed thousands in our region such as the Buchanan Mills. This exhibit also touches on the importance of these three natural resources to everyday life in the past and present. Admission is $5, with children 3 and under free.

Texarkana’s first and oldest museum houses a variety of historical collections depicting the history of the region from the time of the Caddo through the founding of Texarkana and beyond. Located in the historic Offenhauser Insurance Building (1879), this museum includes interactive exhibits that explore the musical history of the region and tell the story of native son Scott Joplin, the “Father of Ragtime.” the Texarkana Museum of Natural History is also the home of the Wilbur Smith Research Library.

Museum Hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
