[UPDATE] Now Two Dead in Texarkana Sunday Shooting
[UPDATE: 10/26/21] We have just learned that the second victim in this shooting that occurred Sunday has died as a result of his injuries. The man has been identified as Gordan Ray Walls, a white male, 60 years old of Texarkana, TX. An additional charge of Murder has now been added to the already filed charges against Thomas Wayne Lawson Sr. No bond has been set on this additional charge as of yet.
[Original Story] A Texarkana man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing one man and seriously wounding another in a shooting that happened Sunday in the 200 block of Horsehoe Loop Rd in southwest Texarkana.
According to Chief Deputy Robby McCarver of the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place on Sunday,10-24-2021, when the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 caller to the address of 217 Horseshoe Loop Road in reference to a reported shooting.
The 911 caller advised that a white male suspect, later identified as Thomas Wayne Lawson Sr. (below), had shot two people. Deputies arrived to find two individuals that had been shot in a wooded area behind the residence. One of the victims was deceased and the other had serious, life-threatening injuries.
The deceased individual was later identified as Roger Franklin Cowley, white male, 63 years old of Texarkana, TX. The second injured victim has not been identified as of yet. Deputies approached the residence and located the suspect Lawson, still armed with a rifle.
A witness on the scene stated that he heard the gunshots and then spoke with Lawson, who told him he had shot the two victims. Thomas Wayne Lawson Sr. was arrested for the offense of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was also found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected Methamphetamine and was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) Under 1 Gram. Lawson's bond was set at $1,000,000 for the charge of Murder, $300,000 for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and $5,000 for the charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
