Maud, Texas Man Accused of Shooting and Killing His Brother-In-Law
The Bowie County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 emergency call Tuesday evening about a man being shot on Birch Street in Maud, Texas.
According to the report filed by the BCSO, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at approximately 7:54 PM, Bowie County deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 500 block of Birch Street Maud, TX. BCSO Captain David Grable arrived to find a shooting victim in the roadway being attended to by the citizen that had called in the emergency to 911. The report says the victim was bleeding badly and a tourniquet was placed on his leg to improve the chances of survival.
When LifeNet Ambulance Service personnel arrived on the scene they took over the life-saving measures but were ultimately unsuccessful. The victim's name is Larry Dewayne Kirby, a white male, 39 years of age, of Maud, Texas died as a result of his injuries.
Before Mr Kirby died he was able to tell the 911 caller that he had been shot by his brother-in-law that was identified as Billy John Scott, 50 years of age, of Maud, Texas. Scott had fled the scene prior to Sheriff's Officers' arrival. They were able to reach Mr Scott by telephone and arrangements were made for his surrender. Scott was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Bi-State Jail for the offense of Murder. Bond has not been determined as of yet.
