‘Honey Boo Boo’ Canceled: TLC Shuts Down Over Mama June’s Sex Offender Boyfriend
As hard as you've worked to ignore 'Honey Boo Boo' and the rest of the Shannon clan from their ubiquitous TLC reality series in recent years, the network has made it that much easier, and for good reason. The notoriously reality-skewing network has officially canceled 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' altogether, following troubling reports that “Mama June” Shannon had resumed a relationship with a convicted child molester.
As originally reported by TMZ, the network evidently got wind of the fact that the Shannon matriarch had again begun dating Mark McDaniel, who had previously been convicted of aggravated child molestation of an 8 year-old in 2004, and served time. Despite June's claims to the contrary, TLC apparently determined the report convincing enough, issuing the following statement:
TLC has canceled the series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately. Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children’s ongoing comfort and well-being.
June has since taken to social media to deny the claim she and McDaniel had resumed their relationship after his release from prison (June and family patriarch David Michael 'Sugar Bear' Thompson ended their marriage earlier this year), though TLC seems to be keeping firm with a decision not to shoot a fifth season.
What do you think? Was TLC right to pull the plug on 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' over the allegations?
