Opening my swimming pool each year is always a task. Turning my pool water from green with tadpoles to clear has not been an easy task the past few years. Closing the pool properly and covering it for the winter is the best way to maintain a clean pool but that doesn't seem to happen at my house so if your pool is green and growing frogs, don't feel alone. My best advice is to hire a pool professional.

Rather than fight the battle myself, I hired a professional. Usually you hear about pool boys but I had a pool woman. I have used her two years in a row now for the initial opening of the pool. Both years I had green, nasty water but at least this year wasn't as bad. She had the pool up and running in two days.

I have an in-line chemical system that works very well and I also use a sand filter. Those two systems work very well to keep my pool beautiful all summer long and the maintenance is very low for me. No more canisters and filters to deal with.

This year the pool opening started on a Wednesday and by Friday, we were in the pool. Now we are set for a good three months of swimming fun.

Tips for opening your pool successfully:

  1. Get a good sand filter
  2. Get an inline chemical treatment system
  3. Go one size up on the pump
  4. Hire a professional
