The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce is unhappy with a political group which has raised concerns about the so called Border City Exemption.

The Chamber published the following Press Release:

The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce has 970+ corporate and individual members who enjoy a wonderful business climate here in Texarkana USA.

Many, if not most, of these businesses benefit from the availability of the Texarkana, Arkansas income tax exemption. This exemption helps to level the playing field with the Texas income tax law.

The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce trusts the voters to decide local propositions regarding the sale of alcohol, however the debate regarding the risk of loss of the Arkansas income tax exemption is harmful, and we cannot remain silent.

Any representation claiming the income tax exemption is in jeopardy is indefensible and highly speculative. There is no conceivable justification to continue to escalate this war of speculation and to place a fabricated narrative into the public domain, for to do so ultimately harms the opponents and proponents of the beer and wine
proposition, and the rest of the business community, as well.

The Chamber continues to monitor state and national legislative developments along with local political maneuvers that impact businesses in our community. We will sound the alarm and rally the troops to protect and enhance our business environment.

The alarm is now ringing: Leave the issue of the income tax exemption alone.
