The animal shelter in Texarkana, Ark. is full and having to put so many animals to sleep to make room for all of the new owner surrenders and strays coming in daily. Please share these videos on your social media pages.

Please help get these dogs in front of people that may be able to rescue or adopt.

These two dogs are beautiful and friendly. The note on the intake sheet for the hound dog mix said she must be someone's pet because she is sweet and smart. The brindle girl was a stray at someone's home and apparently had been there a while. It would be a shame for these dogs not to get a chance to be adopted.

If you see a dog on this adoption floor video that has been at the shelter for a long period of time, they too are in danger of being put to sleep.

Many dogs on the adoption floor that have been there long enough that they should have been adopted by now but just haven't. Those dogs as well as many others that you may not ever see are in jeopardy of loosing their life in the coming days because so many animals are being dropped off as owner surrenders or being picked up as strays. These new animals deserve a chance too and many of them have to be held for three to five days before anything can be done with them. That time period is set by rules of the shelter to allow owners time to reclaim their dogs.If you are interested in adopting, fostering or sponsoring a dog, please contact Bertha at the animal shelter by calling 870-773-6388, option 3. If you sponsor a dog that means that you will pay the fee to have the dog fixed and get a rabies vaccination. Once that is done, the adoption fee will only be $40, which makes it much easier to get a dog adopted from the shelter. The Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Ark., is our only animal shelter in town. It is so unfortunate that there are so many dogs and cats euthanized every week in our local shelter. It is up to the community to prevent it. Spay and neuter your pets. Volunteer to help educate citizens about the need to fix their animals. Share this post on your Facebook page and Tweet about it, too.

The shelter's adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet. You can also have your pet microchipped for only $20 right at the shelter. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly.

If you would like to foster a dog contact the shelter to get information about dog rescues in our area that can help.
