Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, Wednesday, August 1 – Will You Go? [POLL]
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is organizing a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" set for August 1, 2012. Why and what does that mean for you and me?
Mike Huckabee is on a mission. He appears to be very upset over the recent heat that Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy has received over his comments over his beliefs in the biblical definition of the family unit.
On Huckabee's Facebook page he says:
"I ask you to join me in speaking out on Wednesday, August 1 'Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day.' No one is being asked to make signs, speeches, or openly demonstrate. The goal is simple: Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1."

Over one million Facebook users have been invited to this event with 197,687 people confirmed to attend at the time I wrote this blog. This could be a huge event for Chick-fil-A.
There will not be any free food or special deals on the appreciation day. Ikey Eason, the manager of the Central Mall location, told me that the appreciation day is not being organized by Chick-fil-A. He said, "We are here to serve our customers all of the time. There seems to be a lot of support for the August 1st event and we are more than happy to have people come out. We will be here the same as we are every day that we are opened for business." Our conversation quickly turned to their peach shakes. Did you know the reason they are only available for a short time is because the peaches are only harvested once a year and Chick-fil-A only wants to use fresh peaches?
Ikey also told me that, "We have been in this community for 30 plus years and we are dedicated to Texarkana." He said the Central Mall restaurant was number 26 in the franchise. That location has been here since 1978. According to Wikipedia.com, as of April 2012, Chick-fil-A has 1,614 restaurants in 39 states and the District of Columbia.
Central Mall hours: Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Richmond Road hours: Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
I plan to go on Wednesday, do you? I'm not going to support what Mr. Cathy said but to support a local business and the right to say what you believe in.
