This stunning blue-eyed Beagle mix is a fun loving young boy. He jumps as high as your waist whiles smiling and trying to get you to play. He is available for adoption from the animal shelter in Texarkana.

He is a fun, playful pup that is around 1 year old. I never heard him bark but I'm guessing he has a beagle-houndish sort of bark. His tail is only about a third of the size of a normal dog his size. His Animal ID is 74317. He doesn't have a name yet.

He was picked up as a stray and never reclaimed. This happy boy has been at the shelter for three weeks so it is time for him to get adopted and get out of the shelter.

His vaccinations for parvo, distemper and kennel cough have all been done at the shelter. He needs a rabies shot and to be neutered as well as started on heartworm prevention.

The fee to adopt this boy, after all of the vetting which also includes a microchip, will cost $164 which is a discounted rate. If you were to take your own dog to the vet for neuter, rabies, kennel cough and distemper/parvo vaccinations and a microchip, it would cost right at $200.

Dogs and cats are euthanized every week in our local shelter. Some weeks there are more animals put down than other weeks. At this moment there are open kennels on the adoption floor but by the end of the week, that could quickly change. Space becomes an issue at shelters like ours because it is an open admission facility which means they take everything and cannot turn down animals. It is up to the community to help our local shelter and there are several ways to help:

  • Please spay and neuter your pets.
  • Volunteer to help educate citizens about the need to fix their animals.
  • Share this post on your Facebook page and Tweet about it, too.
  • Go to the shelter and take your own photos and videos to share with friends.
  • Donate money to the shelter to help cover spay and neuter costs for people that want to adopt a pet but they cannot afford all of the upfront costs.
The shelter's adoption fees range from $40 to $201, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet.
Have your current pets microchipped at the animal shelter for only $20. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark., 71854 and is open Monday through Friday from 11AM and 5PM and Saturdays from 11AM to 2PM. Our shelter takes in animals from many surrounding communities. Please remember to check with the shelter if you have lost a pet or if you are interested in adopting a new pet.
