For a limited time the Texarkana Friends of the Shelter is paying the vetting fees for dogs and cats adopted from our local animal shelter so your out of pocket cost to adopt right now is only $40 for dogs and $20 for cats. This is a limited time sponsorship that will end when the funds run out. The animal shelter is full

The Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Ark., is the only shelter we have in town and the place that all of the strays go that are picked up by animal control officers or dropped off by citizens.

Take a tour of the adoption floor. This video was taken on June 20 so some dogs may have already been adopted or there may be new ones on the floor now. So many great animals needing homes. Please share the video too. This is only a quick look at the dogs and the kennel numbers.

When you adopt a pet from the animal shelter, the Texarkana Friends of the Shelter will pay to have the pet spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

The animal shelter in Texarkana has a lot of animals that are on the adoption floor, available for people to see and even take for a walk. Each week we feature a pet of the week. They also have stray hold areas for the new arrivals and dogs that need to be held waiting for their owners to reclaim them. If you are missing a dog, it is always a good idea to check the animal shelter in Texarkana daily to make sure your missing animal hasn't been picked up by animal control or taken to the shelter.

Please help get these dogs in front of people who may be able to rescue or adopt. Simply share the videos on your Facebook and Twitter pages.

Here is this week's pet of the week:

Henry was our featured pet last week:

The animal shelter in Texarkana, Ark., often face issues of having enough space for all of the animals coming in. In recent weeks, the shelter was full and had to put animals to sleep to make room for all of the new owner surrenders and strays coming in daily. It is not fair to the dogs so we must get their faces out so people can adopt these babies before it is too late.

Some of these dogs were waiting for their owners to find them but they didn't so know they are on the adoption floor. There are not nearly enough adoptions occurring daily to make room on the adoption floor for all of the dogs that are available to be moved up. What options do they have? If you see a dog that you would like to foster, find a rescue group to pull the dog. Check here for a list of the rescues. Other options for helping these dogs is to share this video on your social media pages so others will see them.

You can sponsor a dog, which means you will pay the fee to have the dog fixed and get a rabies vaccination. Once that is done, the adoption fee will only be $40, which makes it much easier to get a dog adopted from the shelter. The Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Ark., is our only animal shelter in town. They have a few hundred dogs and cats that need to be reclaimed or adopted. Room is always an issue at a city animal shelter. We feature an animal each week to help get the word out about many of these great pets.

Many dogs and cats are euthanized every week in our local shelter. It is up to the community to prevent it. Spay and neuter your pets. Volunteer to help educate citizens about the need to fix their animals. Share this post on your Facebook page and Tweet about it, too.

The shelter's adoption fees are $20 for cats and $40 for dogs. Normally the adopter also has to pay the vetting fees up to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet, but since the Texarkana Friends of the Shelter is sponsoring those fees, you are only required to pay the shelter's adoption fee.

Did you know that you can also take your pet to the shelter to be microchipped for only $20? That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark. 71854 and is open Monday through Friday from 11AM and 5PM and Saturdays from 11AM to 2PM. Also, visit the shelter's Facebook page.
