There is no doubt about it, Texarkana is growing and we love the choices that come with it. We might soon have the choice of another place to get our groceries too. The City of Texarkana Texas is looking at the idea of attracting a new grocery store to town.

According to KTBS.com, the city is looking at $350,000 worth in incentives to bring WinCo Foods to Texarkana. If the store does come that means almost 100 new jobs to the area too.

The City Council will take this proposal up and vote on it on the next meeting on January 10, 2022.

The location of the store would be close to Central Mall. Actually, it would be in the area of the old Sears store, but that would be demolished and a new unattached building would be built.

Lisa Thompson, City of Texarkana, Texas spokesperson told KTBS

"The location of this grocery store is exactly why we wanted them here. Central Mall has a lot of great businesses in it and anything we can do to add to the foot traffic there is important, especially with the closing of another grocery store right across the street. There is a food desert in that area."

You can see an artist's drawing of what the grocery store might look like here.  Most of the WinCo stores are in California and Idaho but there are now several in the Dallas area too.
