Since 2006, the Junior League of Texarkana has partnered with local school districts to encourage children to develop a greater interest in reading through their program "Spring into Reading".

This year, The Junior League of Texarkana is partnering with Texarkana ISD for "Spring into Reading". The event will be held at Westlawn Elementary School on Friday, April 15. Volunteers from the Junior League will begin reading in the classrooms at 1:00 in the afternoon. The pep-rally will begin at 1:30. Through this year's project, Junior League volunteers will promote reading to 360 third, fourth, and fifth grade students, 720 new, teacher-selected books will be distributed, and a fun afternoon will be enjoyed by all.

On the day of the event, Junior League volunteers visit students in their classrooms to read to them. The event also includes a reading pep-rally featuring performances by cheerleaders and motivational speeches from coaches and student athletes who talk about the importance of reading. At the conclusion of the pep-rally, the students return to their classrooms where they receive backpacks filled with new books, snacks, and information from the Texarkana Public Library.

The event is made possible by our generous community partners and the community's support of our fundraisers, Mistletoe Fair and Touch-a-Truck.

The Junior League of Texarkana is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
