Receive Meals and Special Gifts When You Donate Blood

LifeShare is holding special blood drives every Wednesday through the rest of the year. All you Whataburger fans out there can do a good dead and receive a free meal! 

On “Whataburger Wednesday,” blood donors will receive a coupon for a free Whataburger. In addition to the coupon, each month there will be a limited supply of a special Whataburger item for the donors. Kicking off September, this Wednesday donors will be offered Whataburger sunglasses.

“We’re thrilled to have businesses in the community, like Whataburger, recognize blood donors. These donors are not only giving up valuable time, but they are giving something that can’t be manufactured; they are giving blood to help someone they’ve never even met,” says Tina Hooper, spokesperson for LifeShare Blood Centers.

About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital need blood. One blood donation, approximately one pint of blood, can save up to three lives. Every donation has the potential to save someone’s life.

Summertime is always a tough time for the blood bank. People are on vacation and their normal routines are interrupted, which means the blood supply at the center in Texarkana gets dangerously low. Now that school is back in session and the fall months are ahead of us, the blood banks will not be as depleted but more donors are always needed. You can donate at LifeShare Blood Center at 1321 College Drive, Texarkana, Texas, Monday through Saturday.

Did you know that it is good for you to donate blood? You can think of it like changing the oil in your car, its always good to get some of the old blood out that might have too much iron and other minerals in it that can build up and cause health issues.

After blood donation, testing and processing takes a minimum of 24 hours before the blood is available for patient use. Donations of all blood types are needed for constant replenishing.
