UPDATE: Tuesday, September 3 - Cocoa is still at the shelter. She is a 15-pound tri-colored male Border Collie that arrived at the shelter in May after animal control found him wandering around as a stray. Only a year and a half old, he has tons of puppy power and will amaze you with how athletic he is.

You'll love watching his gait as he cheerfully prances around the yard, eager to fetch toys and ropes and bring them back to you (even if some toys are bigger than he is). But you'd better have your running shoes on if you want to keep up with this little dynamo because when he decides to run at a full out gallop, there's no stopping this friendly little guy!

For those of you not familiar with the Border Collie breed, here's the scoop. These friendly dogs were bred more than 100 years ago for their ability to work and herd sheep in the border country between Scotland and England. Because of their high energy level, they need more than just a daily walk and will require lots of room to run. They also do best with mature, well-behaved children, according to the AKC.

You should also know that Cocoa's coat is thick and will require regular brushing. But he is also highly intelligent and full of love for the right forever family. Will you be the one to open your heart and home to this precious pet?

The fee to adopt Cocoa is $116, which includes a $40 adoption fee and a $76 fee to have him neutered, which is mandatory for all animals adopted from the shelter.

However, when you adopt Cocoa, or any of our Provide A Pet A Pad animals, you will receive a FREE basic survival kit for your new dog from the Pleasant Grove Animal Hospital valued at $100! This kit includes everything he might need, including vaccinations, testing for worms, one month’s treatment for fleas and heart worms and so much more.

However, if Cocoa isn’t the companion for you, there are tons of dogs to choose from and adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet.

You can also have your pet micro-chipped for only $20 right at the shelter! That way if your pet is ever lost, he can be returned to you quickly.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark. 71854 and is open Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
