Do you always have cash in your wallet to pay for parking? Many cities around the country are changing out their parking meters with ones that allow for electronic payment.

The city of Dallas and PayByPhone Technologies have partnered to bring residents the option to pay by phone. According to the Dallas Morning News, "the makeover is about 75 percent complete, and the city should finish converting all of its 4,238 meters from cash-only to credit by mid-December," city spokesman Frank Librio said.

Until then Dallas residents have three ways to pay for parking.

  1. You can choose a cash payment with coins.
  2. Set up an account with PayByPhone so that you can use a smartphone app to pay for parking via a credit or debit card.
  3. Call 1-888-680-7275 which is on the parking meter for further assistance. Once you set up an account with PayByPhone, you will be able to receive text messages five minutes before your time runs out so you can pay for additional time.
