New Roundabout Coming to Texarkana, Here’s How to Drive in One
If you haven't mastered the roundabout in Texarkana, keep practicing because we have another roundabout on the way. Our first two-lane roundabout was constructed in 2016 at Gibson Lane and Pavillon Parkway.
Are Roundabouts Safer?
According to wsdot.wa.gov
Roundabouts reduced injury crashes by 75 percent at intersections where stop signs or signals were previously used for traffic control.
We already have three now in our area, around the post office downtown, Wake Village and Gibson at Pavillon Parkway. Although the one downtown and in Wake Village are both one-lane roundabouts.
Where Will Our Next Roundabout be Located?
The next one will be located further down at Gibson Lane and University Parkway. They are already pouring the concrete so it won't be long now. Roundabouts are safer, once you get the hang of them.
Things to Remember When Driving in a Roundabout
Easy rules to remember when using a roundabout:
- Slow down and watch for traffic signs
- Choose your lane and signal
- Yield to pedestrians when entering and exiting.
- When entering a roundabout yield to traffic on the inside
- Stay in your lane until your exit
- Signal right when exiting
