It’s ‘Harry Potter Month’ At The Texarkana Museum Systems
July is Harry Potter Month at the Texarkana Museums System.
Join TMS every Saturday in July for exciting activities designed to train young wizards and witches in the ways of magic. Make a spellbook, concoct a tasty potion, create a one-of-a-kind wand, and compete in the house championship. The cost is $8 per event or $25 for the whole month. TMS Members pay just $3 per event or $10 for the whole month.
The fun begins on July 7 with “Sorting Day” at the Museum of Regional History, 219 N. State Line Avenue. Young guests will be sorted into one of four groups at the State Line School of Magical Arts. Each group will choose their own house name, colors, and mascot. “This will be their ‘house’ for the entire month,” explained Jami Couch, Discovery Place Imagineer. “Each house will participate in activities together as a team throughout the month.”
On July 14, housemates will convene at the Discovery Place Interactive Museum, 215 Pine Street, for “Spellbooks and Potions,” where they will learn to make their own, unique spellbook and mix up a refreshing “potion” to drink using Discovery Place’s new mobile kitchen donated by Red River Lumber.
The most important part of a wizard’s equipment is the wand. On July 21, the Ace of Clubs House, located at 420 Pine Street, will present a “Wand Making Workshop.” Wizards will choose their own materials to make the ultimate personalized wand.
The month of magic wraps up on July 28 with the “House Cup Awards” at the P. J. Ahern Home, 403 Laurel Street. Houses will invite their families to graduation and participate in one last activity: solving the mystery of who stole the House Cup!
Some events have limited registration. Children can attend individual programs or sign up for the whole month at a discounted price. Tickets on sale now through the TMS Facebook pages or Ticketleap. Call or email for specific times and additional details. 903-793-4831 or email@example.com.
