The Texarkana Museums System is offering a really cool event where you will learn more about one of Texarkana's most famous sons. Scott Joplin.

Enjoy a drive-through tour of history Saturday, April 23. The tour bus will take you to the sites and neighborhoods where Scott Joplin grew up.

Joplin grew up in a musical family of railway laborers in Texarkana, Arkansas, and developed his own musical knowledge with the help of local teachers. While in Texarkana, Texas, he formed a vocal quartet and taught mandolin and guitar

Scott Joplin Becoming The King of Ragtime

Scott Joplin moved to Missouri then on to St. Louis and eventually to New York City where he became famous for his musical talents.  He composed over 100 original ragtime pieces and two operas. Joplin became known as the 'King of Ragtime'.
