Recall of Select Jiff Products for Possible Salmonella in Ar & Tx

Just about every household has a jar of peanut butter in the kitchen cabinet. Please check your peanut butter because there is a big voluntary recall. Some Jiff products might be contaminated with Salmonella.  

The J. M. Smucker Co. is recalling select Jif® peanut butter products sold in the U.S. due to possible Salmonella contamination and working with the FDA.

The CDC stated that 14 people in 12 states including Arkansas and Texas were infected with Salmonella with 2 people hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. They also say to make sure to clean any countertops or utensils that have been in contact with the product thoroughly.

Look for these lot numbers:

• Lot code numbers 1274425 through 2140425, with “425” at the end of the first 7 numbers.

According to the CDC;

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
