Do You Know The Secret Of The Ghost Town Of Okay Arkansas?
Do you know that there is a town just a few miles away that has crystal blue waters and a white sand beach? But sadly is a ghost town right here in Arkansas.
The small town of Okay Arkansas is just a 30-minute drive from Texarkana and not only is it a ghost town it has the most awesome feature you will find a white sandy beach and crystal blue water.
Okay, Arkansas is home to a limestone mine that started up in the late 1920s. You can see the view of the mill on the east side of Millwood Lake.
This plant had a small town that was built around it. The town had 40 homes, a church, even a railroad. The reason why they wanted to build a plant in Arkansas was the commitment of the state to building better roads and bridges, that would aid in the transportation of the limestone out of the plant.
There were many things added to the city including a meeting hall, a golf course, croquet field, baseball fields, tennis courts, and a general store.
As you can see in the picture almost all of the structures have been torn down and the city has been left abandoned. By the early 1970s, all that remained were the plant the church, and the plant manager home.
The plant eventually closed in 1993 and all that is left is a couple of old streets and this unbelievably blue lake with the most pristine white-sand beaches.
Out of curiosity, I made the quick trip there yesterday and this is what I found.
This is the gate to the plant and surrounding streets. It was clearly marked with a no trespassing sign.
There was a church that sat just outside of the gate. I wonder if this was part of the original town that was once there.
