Leaders of the twin cities will get together this week to talk about common ground. Leadership Texarkana will host the joint meeting.

It will be a joint meeting of the members of the Texarkana Ark., Board and the Texarkana, Texas City Council along with their respective City Managers hosted by Leadership Texarkana as part of LIFT: The Leadership Initiative for Texarkana, which is made possible by the following event sponsors:

Texarkana College, TexAmericas Center, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, Express Employment Professionals, Texamac/McDonald’s Restaurants, Texarkana Independent School District, and Hilton Garden Inn-Texarkana Convention Center

The even will take place Wednesday, February 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Texarkana College’s Truman Arnold Center - Great Room

Participants to include Texarkana, Ark., and Texarkana, Texas city council and board members and City Managers, including staff members for each city.

Facilitated by Pat Heiny and Mary Jo Clark, the individuals who so successfully facilitated LIFT’s Joint City Leaders’ Summit in January 2013.

The goal is to  provide the opportunity to foster relationships and conversation among the members of the two groups of city officials which could be foundational to developing potentially useful structures and/or processes for ongoing joint bi-city conversations going forward.

Specifically -

• To get to know one another through the sharing of individual perspectives and/or individual concerns

• To identify concerns or priorities which are shared among those present and to identify one or a few which are priorities throughout the groups

• To determine useful structures and processes for ensuring ongoing joint conversation on issues common to both cities.

This LIFT gathering is motivated by a belief that the foundation for our best collective community efforts will come from the trust, respect, and awareness of common interests and needs, in conjunction with intentionally scheduled ongoing opportunities to develop and maintain connections among the generous elected officials who serve our community.

It is proposed with full acknowledgment and support of the many ongoing joint city conversations which are already in place, from Bi-State Justice to Military Affairs, MPO, ATCOG, etc.
