Experienced drivers will have a chance to refresh their skills during the SmartDriverTM Course hosted by Christus St. Michael Health System and the AARP.

The Christus St. Michael Senior Health Center partners with AARP to provide this safe driving course for area residents. SmartDriverTM is the nation’s first and largest refresher course for drivers age 50 and older, providing millions of drivers with the skills and tools they need to drive safely on today’s roads.

Participants will learn:
• Effective safe-driving practices, skills and strategies you can use on the road every day
• Defensive driving techniques to help you deal with aggressive drivers
• Local laws and traffic rules for drivers
• Proper maintenance of your vehicle so it’s safe before you drive
• And, much more….

The course will be held on Tuesday, August 14, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, in the North Conference Center at CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, located at 2600 St. Michael Drive, Texarkana, TX.

Sharleen Keahey, CHRISTUS St. Michael Senior Health Center Manager said.

“This is a great opportunity for area drivers ages 50 and older to learn excellent information and just get a refresher on very necessary skills,” “Smart Drivers may also earn a discount on their auto insurance premium after completing the course – which is a fantastic bonus.”

The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. The fee is payable at the door. Seating for the AARP SmartDriverTM Course is limited, and reservations are required.
