Cardi B Makes History as First Female Rapper to Land Two No. 1 Singles After “I Like It” Tops Chart
Cardi B is back on top of the Billboard Hot 100. Her newly platinum-certified single "I Like It," featuring Bad Bunny and J. Balvin, surged from No. 2 to No. 1 in the chart's latest installment, unseating XXXTentacion's song, "Sad!"
In doing so, Bardi becomes the first female MC to conquer the Hot 100 twice. Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)," Lil Kim's "Lady Marmalade," Shawnna's "Stand Up" and Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" all hit No. 1, but none of the artists ever earned the crown again. Nicki Minaj, for her part, has released or featured on eight Top 10 songs, but never reigned supreme. Cardi's breakthrough hit "Bodak Yellow" spent three weeks atop the chart in October 2017.
The news comes as Cardi prepares to give birth to her child with husband Offset. The Bronx rapper was pregnant for most of her April album Invasion of Privacy's promotion cycle, including her performances at Coachella and on Saturday Night Live. She hosted a baby shower in Atlanta just days before Billboard announced the latest chart. It's unclear whether Cardi's registry requests for a gold bassinet or a toy Bentley were satisfied, but a No. 1 single isn't a bad consolation prize.
Rappers help round out the top of this week's chart, with "Sad!" sticking at No. 2, Juice WRLD's "Lucid Dreams" climbing to No. 3, Maroon 5's Cardi-featuring "Girls Like You" sitting at No. 4 and Post Malone's "Psycho" lifting back up to No. 5. The week extends hip-hop's chart dominance in the wake of Billboard's decision to prioritize streaming in calculations.
