If you are new to golf or a seasoned pro, here are four public golf courses in Texarkana you need to check out.

New Haven

New Haven is a course that I know quite a bit about. I have golfed on this course since the early 70's when I was just a few years old. My father has been a member for many years and was good friends with the original owner Buddy Miers. The course has gone through a tremendous transformation in the past few years and has become one of the best destinations for golfers in Texarkana. My favorite hole is the par 5 15th. with a tee shot over water and plenty of room to play in if you hit the ball like I do.

Oak Grove Golf Club

The Oak Grove Golf Club is one of my personal favorites in the Texarkana area. It was originally a nine hole golf course but underwent a major renovation in 1999. At that time they added nine holes and did major work to the existing holes and greens. Four States Living Magazine voted Oak Gove  as the best public golf course in Texarkana. Its a 20 mile drive to get there,  but it is well worth it. The course is very 'hacker friendly' it is forgiving for those of us that slice the ball. My favorite hole is number 12, a drive able par four that has a small lake down the left side. Call the pro shop before you play to make sure they do not have tournament.

The Links

The Links in Texarkana is a little nine hole golf course that is one of the more challenging courses in Texarkana. It has unbelievable grass, that guarantees a great lie no matter where you end up in the fairway. This course rewards the accurate golfer with pristine greens and water on every hole. My favorite  hole is the par three 5th hole that features a large island green. Bring your 'water balls' to play here.

Texarkana Golf Ranch

The Texarkana Golf Ranch is by far the most difficult course on this list. It earns that distinction by being longer, than any of these courses and it also boasts some of the most difficult greens to read. The Golf Ranch which opened in 2002 sits on 600 acres of land beside Bringle Lake. At one time it was ranked as one of the most difficult public courses in the sate of Texas and Golf Digest voted it  'one of the best places to play". The signature hole of this course its the par 5 8th which boasts a distance of 666 yards mostly uphill ,from the longest tees. Be sure to call ahead to get your tee times at the 'Ranch'.
