I am such a proud parent. My stepson, Ethan, plays the trumpet in the sixth grade band at Texas Middle School and they performed their very first notes in front of an audience during the Fall Concert held on October 11.

This performance is the first time I have heard Ethan play other than the practice sessions that do not happen at home very often. You can barely see Ethan but I can hear his trumpet. He is to the right of the boy wearing the green, striped shirt.

Perhaps I should have placed an arrow in the video pointing him out. Perhaps not.

It is so exciting for me to watch him because I remember trying to learn to play the clarinet when I was in fifth grade. Though honestly, looking back, it was not a great experience. I could not grasp the concept of learning the notes. While the rest of my classmates were playing Mary Had a Little Lamb, I was sinking in my seat.

I am a DJ on the radio so my job is playing other people's music, which makes much more sense. Keep playing, Ethan.
