Taylor Swift’s Makeup Fail: Using a Sharpie as Eyeline

Taylor Swift always looks camera-ready, but that doesn't mean she doesn't make the occasional makeup misstep.

In an interview with Refinery29.com to promote her latest Cover Girl campaign, she was asked to name the "craziest beauty trick" she's ever tried.  Her answer?  "I once used a Sharpie as eyeliner in an airplane bathroom because I didn't have any with me," she reveals.  "I don't recommend it."

A better experience, Taylor says, comes when she sticks to the looks that she knows work for her.  "I love red lips and a cat-eye," she says.  "That's been my go-to for a few years now."  As for her trademark blonde tresses, Taylor says, "I decide based on what I'm doing on any given day...My go-to easy hairstyle at the moment is a ponytail with some kind of headband or scarf."

As for her overall look, Taylor describes it as "classic, feminine, and retro," and says her style icons are "Ethel and Jackie Kennedy back in the '50s and '60s."  Speaking about those women -- who were married to Senator Robert F. Kennedy and President John F. Kennedy, respectively -- Taylor says, "Something about that elegance is really lovely and makes me want to dress more like they did.  I'd never thought about wearing pearl earrings or head scarves before [being inspired by] them."

Taylor's obsession with the Kennedy family was on display over the Fourth of July weekend, when she was spotted sailing with the family at Hyannis Port in Cape Cod, MA.
