If you are looking for something for the kids to do this summer here are a few of the weekly camps and activities going on in Texarkana this summer.

Minton's Sportsplex has been a staple of the Texarkana area for many years and offers a summer program full of athletic-based activities. Minton’s offers full-time summer care for kids packed with cheer, basketball, volleyball, softball, swimming, soccer, football and basketball. Enrollment is open to children six weeks of age to 12 years. Program hours are between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Two snacks and lunch are provided. The City of Texarkana, Texas Parks and Recreation offers a six-week camp for $100 per child full of fun, arts and crafts, curriculum, sports, games and much more. The camp is offered at both the Southwest Center and the Beverly Community Center. The camp is not in session the week of July 1-5. Registration is open between April 1 and May 31. Kid's College celebrates 20 years of offering a wide range of summer fun! This year for the first time there are two age levels of programming. Registration begins May 6 for mail-in and online applications, and May 10 for walk-in registration. Pricing is $60 or less. Call (903) 832-5565 ext. 3270 for additional information. Programming for Kid's College is for children who have finished second grade to sixth grade and includes more than 20 classes. A few favorites include cake decorating, cheerleading, digital scrapbooking, lego-robotics, magic-"Abracadabra," pottery, Taekwondo, twirling, sign language and the wonders of the weather. For the older children, there are the Early College Prep Academy classes. These are open to seventh, eighth and ninth graders. There are more than 20 class­es to choose from in the curriculum. Top­ics for classes include aviation, Glam It Up, virtual welding tech, drill team, Movie Madness - Fear the Comput­er!, Slam Poetry and more.

Join the Texarkana Museum System for four days of exciting activities. This program is for ages 9 to 12. Registration is required. $30 per day or $100 for the entire week. Lunch is included. See below for daily itinerary:

  • Tuesday, June 18 is Pirate Day: Become a pirate for a day and make your own compass to lead you on your treasure hunt.
  • Wednesday, June 19 is Pioneer Day: Step back in time to make your own butter, dip your own candles and make your own ink.
  • Thursday, June 20 is Mad Science Day: Learn how to extract DNA and explore the world around you through science. Dress to get messy!
  • Friday, June 21 is Art and Storytelling Day: A day full of art and creativity including making your own comic book and creating your own short animation. Dress to get messy!

Bring on the drama in this summer camp! Students will be introduced to and practice acting, movement and music. This program is open to children entering grades first through college freshman.
