Vin Diesel and Helen Mirren Share Secrets in New ‘Fast 8’ Photo
You’ve probably heard that Vin Diesel recently became the first celebrity to reach over 100 million likes on Facebook — a level of validation that mere mortals such as you or I may never know. A lot of those likes are the result of Diesel’s commitment to his fans and to sharing photos from his new films, like the latest pic from the set of Fast 8, which features your new favorite BFF pairing: Diesel and Dame Helen Mirren.
Angry DC Fans Start Petition to Shut Down Rotten Tomatoes, Good Grief
We’ve seen this before, and not even that long ago: Disgruntled DC fans railing against critics for negative reviews of a new film before it even hits theaters; before those fans have even seen the film for themselves. It happened with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it’s happening again with Suicide Squad, as fans take to social media to bash critics for what they perceive to be unfair reviews based on personal bias against superhero films — or DC movies, specifically. But this time they have a petition and a misguided plan to solve this crisis in the film community.
Jimmy Fallon to Host the 2017 Golden Globes
Following in the footsteps of his former SNL pals Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Jimmy Fallon will host the 2017 Golden Globes — which should also provide a respite from the antics of Ricky Gervais, for those of you who were growing a little weary of his schtick. The big question now is whether or not Fallon can make it through the awards ceremony without laughing.
New Amazon Prime Instant Video Releases: August 2016
It’s that time again: Amazon has announced the newest streaming additions coming to Prime Instant Video in August, giving you yet another excuse to procrastinate as you endlessly browse Netflix, Amazon, HBO NOW, et al. for something to watch — before ultimately realizing it’s been two hours and you might as well just watch the third season of Parks and Rec AGAIN. But Amazon will make it easier for you next month, with highlights including recent faves like Inside Llewyn Davis, Blue Ruin and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
‘Star Trek 4’ Will Boldly Unite Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine
Star Trek Beyond hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but there’s already talk of the next installment in the franchise — and if early reactions to Justin Lin’s new Trek sequel are to be believed, then we have every reason to be optimistic about the future of the series. But just in case you needed one more, J.J. Abrams has revealed his “incredibly exciting” idea for Star Trek 4, which will reportedly bring Chris Hemsworth back to the franchise to team up with Chris Pine.
2016 Emmy Award Nominees: The Biggest Surprises and Worst Disappointments
Boy, that was quick. 2016 Emmy nominees were announced this morning, and special presenters Lauren Graham and (a very excitable) Anthony Anderson wasted no time in revealing this year’s crop of nominees. While there was rightfully plenty of love to go around for dramas like The People v. O.J. Simpson and Mr. Robot, and comedy faves Veep and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, there were a few disappointments — namely, where the hell is UnREAL?! Or The Leftovers? Come on, Emmys.
Live-Action ‘Pokemon’ Movie in the Works, Just in Case ‘Pokemon GO’ Isn’t Real Enough For You
You may be thinking, “But there’s already a live-action Pokemon. It’s called Pokemon GO and it makes me take my dog on extra walks!” Yes, yes, but just in case your personal, semi-live-action experience with the latest app craze isn’t enough, those long-developing plans for a new Pokemon movie have gotten a little more developed as Legendary is making a push to secure rights to the hit game franchise.
We’re All Criminals Now: Sharing Netflix and HBO Go Passwords Is a Federal Crime
Chances are, you or someone you know either shares their Netflix and HBO Go passwords or benefits from using someone else’s account. It’s such a common occurrence that, when asked about it, even the CEO of HBO was like, “No big deal,” then he tipped his shades and sent out a memo with a shrug emoticon — okay, I made that last part up, but if even that guy doesn’t care, then what’s the problem? Oh, just a little something called Federal Law.
George Takei Says ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Sulu Reveal Is ‘Unfortunate’
Well this is certainly unexpected. Earlier today, we learned that Star Trek Beyond will reveal that John Cho’s Sulu is gay, a move partially intended to honor the legacy of George Takei, the actor who originated the iconic role in the classic television series and who himself came out as gay in 2005. You’d think that Takei of all people would be thrilled by the decision, but that’s not exactly the case.
‘The LEGO Movie Sequel’ Taps ‘BoJack Horseman’ Creator For Script Rewrite
Scripts get rewritten and revised all the time, but coupled with a big release date change, it’s the sort of thing that seems a bit worrisome. Such is the case with The LEGO Movie Sequel, which was recently pushed back to 2019 and is undergoing some rewrites — which definitely does not sound like everything is awesome. But there is some good news, which should make fans of The LEGO Movie and a certain Netflix series pretty happy.
‘Sing’ Trailer: More Animated Talking Animals, This Time With Singing
This is a big year for animated movies featuring talking animals: Zootopia, Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets and now, Sing. But what sets the latest adventure apart from its animated brethren is right there in the title, and you can get a taste of what’s in store this Christmas thanks to a new extended trailer, featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey and a whole bunch of other people you really like.
Alicia Vikander’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Gets a Release Date
Of the many reboots in the works, the new Tomb Raider movie is one of the more interesting projects currently in development — and one of the few with some actual potential. Starring Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander and directed by The Wave’s Roar Uthaug (who has the coolest name ever), Tomb Raider seems like the rare reboot that might actually be a good idea. And we won’t have to wait too long to find out if that’s the case, as Warner Bros. has officially set a release date.
