Thanks to their smash hit "Ho Hey," The Lumineers have found themselves some high-profile fans, but they were shocked when one of them, Elton John, expressed the depth of his passion for their music by slapping them around.

Speaking to British journalist Gordon Smart on the British radio station XFM, Lumineers frontman Wesley Schultz said that when the band was at the Grammy Awards earlier this month, they were surprised when Elton John stopped them while they were walking in and told them he was a fan of their music.  But according to Wesley, Lumineers drummer Jeremiah Fraites then expressed disbelief that someone as famous as Elton John would know who they were.

"Our drummer says, 'There's no f***ing way you listened to our album!'" Schultz told Smart.  "And Elton just slaps him in the face and says, 'The hell I didn't!  I definitely did!'"

Wesley added, "It was a special moment."

At the Grammys, The Lumineers were nominated for two trophies, but lost out on both of them.  Still, their album has gone platinum, "Ho Hey" is triple platinum and they have a headlining tour lined up for April.
