Randy Sams’ Shelter Announces Second Building Purchase
Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter is pleased to announce that they have purchased a second building in their ongoing capital project. The new location is at 803 Spruce Street and will house administrative offices, the case management team, a computer lab and library for clients, a space for religious organizations to host study sessions, small group sessions, services, and it will be the permanent home of the outreach's job training program, "Be the Blessing Bakery."
The new building is the former home of Hospice of Texarkana and has been obtained through a collaboration of the two organizations following capital expansions for both Hospice of Texarkana and Randy Sams' Outreach. "We have been seeking the perfect space to house our programs so that we can serve those who seek our assistance even better and we believe this building will make this possible," said Stephen Thompson, Board Chairman for Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter.
The renovations in the main shelter facility are ongoing and include an expanded capacity to provide shelter, more pantry storage and central heat and air. The main facility renovations are projected to be completed by February of this year with plans to open the second facility in March. At its completion, the Shelter facility will house twice the number of women it could previously and the total capacity will be 125.
"I'm so very thankful for the benefactors and donors throughout the years and especially those who have helped with our capital campaign. We hope the new Outreach Center will extend those blessings to this important and underserved population," said John Delk, Building Committee chairperson.
The Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter is an emergency shelter for adult men and women. Their mission is to meet the immediate needs of safe, temporary lodging and food for people experiencing homelessness until their return to self-sustained community living. In 2016, more than 175 people moved from the Shelter into permanent housing and hundreds were provided shelter, clothing, food and other vital support services as well as the opportunity for job training.
They are very thankful for the community's generous support throughout the year to maintain an operating shelter and its support of their Capital Improvement Project. If you would like to donate, please designate in the memo of the check if you would like it used for capital improvement or shelter operations. Checks can be mailed to:
