Provide a Pet a Pad for Dogs Short on Time at the Shelter
Good news - Cherry, our provide a pet a pad featured pet from last week was adopted. Bad news - several other dogs are running out of time.
Lend a hand to a few dogs to help find homes for them this week. Just share this story on your social media.
We lost Haley and Zuma last week. They had been at the shelter for a very long time and didn't have anyone interested in adopting them. It was probably because of their high energy and barking but when a dog is confined to a small area for such a long time without daily interaction with a loving family, they either get wound up even more or their spirit is broken. Remember Ernie? He had been at the shelter for so long that his spirit was broken. He wouldn't even move when people walked by his kennel. But thankfully, Ernie is now in a new home.
Here are some of the dogs that have been at the shelter for a very long time and need extra attention from us this week to help them get into new homes:
Mouse can be shy at first but he warms up quickly. Cheerio is a sweet boy who only weighs about 6 pounds Joe is also very sweet and only about 5 pounds Kim is shy at first but she is already spayed so that means just $40 to adopt her. There are three dachshund mixes that are adorable, one of them is dapple with blue eyes. They are also very small sized dogs. There are some cutie-patootie chihuahua mixes and they are very calm.
This video shows all of the dogs on the adoption floor:
You can adopt the dogs on this page and many other by going to the animal shelter located at 203 Harrison in Texarkana, Ark. The shelter's adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet.
The Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Ark., is our only animal shelter in town. They have a few hundred dogs and cats that need to be reclaimed or adopted. Room is always an issue at a city animal shelter. We feature an animal each week to help get the word out about many of these great pets.
T-shirts are available at the animal shelter. They are $18 and will help support the animals at the shelter.
Please visit the shelter's Facebook page to see if there is an animal there that you would be interested in adopting, fostering or sponsoring.
It is unfortunate that there are thousands of dogs that are euthanized every year in our local shelter when there are so many dogs that would make fabulous pets. Help us make a difference by spreading the word. Share this post on your Facebook page and Tweet about it, too.
You can also have your pet microchipped for only $20 right at the shelter. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly. If you would like to foster a dog contact the shelter to get information about dog rescues in our area that can help.
The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark. 71854 and is open Monday through Friday from 11AM and 5PM and on Saturday from 11AM to 2PM.
