Pleasant Grove High School Robotics Team Claims Tournament Championship in New Diana

On Saturday, March20,2021, four Pleasant Grove High School robotics teams competed in the VEX robotics competition in New Diana, TX. Brooks Beck and Campbell Jackson made tournament semifinals, Chad Haidet andJay Branch advanced to the tournament finals and received the Judges Award. Austin Bradley, Hayden Howell, Jacob Jones and Cade Haak received the Excellence Award and won the tournament championship. The Pleasant Grove High School Robotics team is sponsored by Colton Mullins.

Pleasant Grove High School Journalism Department EarnsTwo More Gold Crown Awards from CSPA

Pleasant Grove High School student journalists won the top national awards in the Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Crown Ceremony. The awards were presented virtually from Columbia University on March 19, 2021. The 2020 editions of The Hawk yearbook and the Edge newspaper received the Gold Crown award, the most prestigious award given by the CSPA with more than 852 publications entering the competition. This was the ninth consecutive year The Hawk has won the Gold Crown.
The Crown Awards honor top student publications chosen from CSPA’s members. Crowns are selected for overall excellence in a head-to-head comparison. Student publishing in news, magazine, yearbook or digital (online) formats are all eligible. During Crown consideration, publications are judged on their excellence as shown by their design, photography, concept, coverage and writing.

The 2020 Pleasant Grove High School yearbook editors were Kathryn Davis, Presley Hargrove, Rachel Hemphill and Olivia Rochelle and newspaper editors were Delia Tuttlebee, Delaynie Keeney and Alex Norton. The journalism department is advised by Charla Harris, 2019 National High School Yearbook Adviser of the Year.

Pleasant Grove High School Yearbook Nominated for Pacemaker Award

The 2020 edition of The Hawk yearbook was named a Pacemaker Finalist by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) March 9, 2021.

The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) named51 high school yearbooks from 18 states as finalists in its prestigious PacemakerCompetition. In all, 380 student publications entered the Pacemaker competition. Twenty-two of the 51 finalists will earn the Pacemaker award, which will be announced on April 10 as part of the virtual JEA/NSPA Spring National HighSchool Journalism Convention. The journalism department is advised by Charla Harris,2019 National High School Yearbook Adviser of the Year.
