Monster Bass-Zilla Caught on Arkansas Lake – Could It Be A Record Breaker?
His name is Steven Tyson Jr., he's a 27-year-old aspiring professional angler and he just caught the biggest striped bass I have ever seen. We shall call it Bass-Zilla from now on.
Bass-Zilla came out of Lake Hamilton on Saturday, February 12, 2022, according to an article by Jim Harris on the Arkansas Fish and Game Commission website. Could it be a world record? Maybe. Could it have been a Lake Hamilton record? Also maybe. Unfortunately, we will never know, because shortly after taking the above pictures Steven let it go.
Wait, what?
Yep, he let it go. I couldn't believe it when I read that. When I first saw the article I was scanning it feverishly trying to find out how much Bass-Zilla weighed. Every time I found a weight mentioned in the article it was for another fish, not Bass-Zilla. So, I calmed myself a bit and slowly read the whole article, sadly, it's true, young Tyson let it go with no weigh-in.
Tyson was out fishing for black bass in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League tournament, using 10-pound test in about 7 feet of water on a jerk bait. If you wanna get any more complicated about the fishing info you're gonna need to read the original article. I can't catch a dork-fish on a corndog. Thanks to comedian Bill Ingvall for that reference.
By the way, the Arkansas state record striped bass was set in 2000 by Jeff Fletcher of Golden, Missouri, his monster fish weighed in at 64 pounds, 8 ounces.
Something tells me this young man will be catching all kinds of Bass-Zillas and Fish-Zillas throughout his life. Now that you know it's still out there, think you could land it or boat it?
Steven Tyson Jr is definitely one to watch.
