The Red River is continuing its very slow recess, but many areas remain underwater as of Monday morning. The dropping of the river level along with some repair work by the Arkansas Highway Transportation Department has allowed for the re-opening of the Red River Bridge that connects New Boston, Texas, with Foreman, Ark. And State Highway 8 and State Highway 41 are open at the river for the first time in over a week.

However, Highway 259 at Pecan Point, north of De Kalb, Texas remains closed due to flooding and repair work that still needs to be done. Also, still closed is Highway 71 Index Bridge just north of Texarkana. This means motorists are still having to detour many miles out of their way to get from Texarkana to Ashdown.

The Texas Department of Transportation website indicates that it is possible the two bridges could be re-opened by week's end. However, that is not set in stone and is only a projection.

The current river levels on the Red as of 10 a.m.. Monday are:

Pecan Point  31.5 feet. Expected to fall just under "Major Flood Stage" by this time on Wednesday morning.

Index 28.64 feet. Expected to fall just under "Major Flood Stage" by this time Tuesday morning.

Fulton 30.25 feet. Expected to fall just under "Major Flood Stage" by later this Monday evening.

Spring Bank Ferry "Cresting" at about 44.23 feet today, expecting a slow decline to start in the next few days. Flood stage at Spring Bank Ferry is 37 feet.

Please remember do not drive through flooded areas and do not remove barricades on flooded roadways.
