As many Americans prepare for their Memorial holiday weekend, let's not forget about our military fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives so that we can enjoy our freedom today.

There will be several memorials dedicated to these military men and women who served our great country.

Listed below are the Memorial services scheduled for the Texarkana area.

  • Sunday, May, 30, 2 PM - Texarkana Area Veterans Council will present a service at East Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Highway 67 East.
  • Monday, May 31, 11:45 AM - Hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 278, the ceremony will take place at the Korea-Vietnam Memorial adjacent to West 7th and North State Line Avenue.
  • Monday, May 31, 3 PM - Hillcrest Cemetary on Highway 67 West, hosted by Texarkana Funeral Home.

In addition, there will be a National Moment of Remembrance encouraging all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to our nation.

Today these parks are located throughout the country in 25 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The land encompassing them was either purchased or donated, though much of it had been inhabited by native people for thousands of years before the founding of the United States. These areas are protected and revered as educational resources about the natural world, and as spaces for exploration.
