UPDATE: Texarkana Murder/Suicide Victims and Suspect Names Released
UPDATE: The names of the shooting victims and the suspect in Monday's murder/suicide in the 2500 block of Glendale have been released by the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department.
The incident took place on Monday, November 6 at a home at 2501 Glendale in Texarkana, Arkansas. Pronounced dead at the scene was Emerie Gailey, age 4 months, and suspect Preston Gailey, age 27. The mother, Janie Gailey, age 19, was airlifted to a hospital in Little Rock where she remains with critical injuries sustained in the shooting. A Beretta 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered there was a domestic violence incident earlier this year in September, that resulted in TAPD officers arresting Preston Gailey.
The family is requesting prayers for Janie as she is still in critical condition.
The investigation continues as a murder/suicide. No further details have been released at this time.
The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department released the following statement Monday evening;
On November 6, 2023 at approximately 4:40 p.m. Texarkana Arkansas Police received a 911 call advising of a shooting at 2501 Glendale. The caller advised the wife and child had been shot by the husband at the scene. Arriving officers were told that the suspected shooter had barricaded himself inside with the victims. Patrol officers forced entry into the residence to find an adult male, adult female, and a small child suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The adult male and the child were deceased. The adult female was still alive and transported to the hospital by LifeNet.
The names of the victims are being withheld until next of kin are notified.
