Farmers, ranchers, and any individual wanting to give a wild horse or burro a good home, the Bureau of Land Management is holding a two-day wild horse and burro event on September 22-23 at the Idabel Rodeo Arena in Idabel, Oklahoma.

The event begins on Friday, Sept. 22, at 10 AM and will feature 120 animals up for adoption. Adoptions take place on Sept. 23, noon-6 PM and Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8 AM until noon. Buyers must provide trailers that are stock-type, covered, with swing gates and sturdy walls and floors.

Applications must be completed on-site with BLM staff members. Adoption fees start at $125 and all the animals in this event are eligible for the adoption incentive program, which provides $1,000 upon titling of an untrained wild horse or burro for a minimum of one year from the adoption date.

Animals at the event are adult and yearling horses along with burros that once roamed free on public lands in the west  In order to maintain healthy herds and to protect a range of resources The Bureau of Land Management removes some of these animals which wind up in the Adoption and Sales event.

Since the adoption program started in 1973, The Bureau of Land Management has been able to find 280,000 animals loving homes all across the country.
